Disgustology - Science of Gross
“Disgustology: The Science of Gross” (2025) is a children’s non-fiction book about the most disgusting facts of nature, written by Teresa Robertson for Macmillan Odd Dot. The project was based on an idea I pitched to Odd Dot. For this book, I created delightfully disgusting spot illustrations across 160 pages. I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project, as drawing adorable bacteria, bodily functions, and other horrific abominations of nature is right up my alley.

Anna-Maria Jung graduated in 2007 in “Multimedia Arts” at FH Salzburg. From 2009 – 2012 she studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York with the Fulbright Program completing a Master of Arts degree in Illustration. Since 2007 she has worked as a full-time freelance illustrator, and loves to create nerdy and cute cartoons, usually with a dash of dark humor.

Since 2009 she has created more than 250 fun and nerdy illustrations for the licensing market – her designs have sold up to a hundred thousand times on Threadless, Shirt.Woot, Teefury and many other platforms.
Beginning in 2012 she has created many illustrations for children’s books such as The Most Dangerous Book – Archery (Workman), Tinker Active Workbooks (Macmillan) and Creepy Cafetorium (Epic!).
In 2019, she illustrated 270 cards for the Movie Cliché Card Game created by German cartoonist Joscha Sauer which raised over 150, 000 USD on Kickstarter.
She is currently living and working in beautiful Graz, Austria, and continues to produce illustrations for children’s books, graphic novels, and apparel.
