Outline
This international competition for graphic design and illustration is held every two years and has been organized by designaustria (DA), the Austrian interest organization and knowledge centre for design, since 1996. The competition is named after Joseph Binder, a founder member of designaustria and Austrian graphic designer and illustrator whose pioneering impact was felt in both Europe and the United States throughout the first half of the twentieth century.
Eligibility
Professional designers or design students from all over the world are invited to participate, either as individuals or teams. They
may enter projects in the fields of graphic design and illustration (individual works or series) that were realized and published
between 2010 and 2012. The special category Design Fiction (see below) is open for unpublished and unrealized projects.
The number of entries is not limited.

1. Corporate Design
corporate identity programmes, logotypes,
office stationary, etc.
2. Communication Design
advertisements, brochures, leaflets, cards, folders, etc.
3. Information Design
signage systems, forms, pictograms, diagrams,
user instructions, etc.
4. Type Design
fonts, typefaces, lettering, etc.
5. Poster Design
outdoor or indoor posters, small-size or large-size
6. Editorial Design
books, catalogues, magazines, newspapers, etc.
7. Packaging Design
packages, labels, CD covers, etc.
8. Illustration
book and media illustration, storyboards, character design, etc.
9. Special Category: Design Fiction
unpublished works, independent or non-commercial projects
Entries
Please register online at www.designaustria.at/jb12.
Your entries must then be sent by post and should include:
1. a completed and signed registration form for each entry (to be printed out from the website);
2. printed examples of the work(s), either unmounted (larger works) or mounted on paper or cardboard panels (maximum size 420 x 594 mm, horizontal or vertical); printouts or photographs will be accepted in the case of oversized works;
3. a short description (max. 500 words).
Design Fiction: originals will also be accepted.
Entries will only be returned upon request (please tick appropriate box on entry form) and on the entrant’s risk and expense.
Entry Deadlines
Early bird: send your entries by 29 February 2012 (postmark date) and benefit from reduced registration fees (see below).
Regular registration: send your entries by 18 May 2012 (postmark date).
