Frances

Münster

My principle
My name is Frances, I am a scientific illustrator specialized in flora and fauna. Nature has big and small wonders waiting for the world, but they are deeply hidden to us. Nevertheless, we have been sharing one and the same planet for many hundreds of centuries, which is now just as threatened as its inhabitants themselves. With my illustrations, I give these wonders the attention they are denied. I make the invisible visible: their vitality, their uniqueness, their endangerment.

Art That Brings Knowledge to Life

My illustrations combine scientific accuracy with a vibrant and emotional visual language. I place particular emphasis not only on depicting subjects realistically, but also on conveying them in a way that makes them understandable and brings knowledge to life. Through intensive research and a deep engagement with scientific topics, I create authentic illustrations that are both factually precise and full of personality.

Illustrations can make particularly complex content easier to understand and more tangible. Whether for books, magazines, exhibitions, or infographics—my work captures attention, conveys knowledge, and leaves a lasting impression.

I prefer to work with watercolors in a traditional, analog style, which creates natural textures, dynamic color gradients, and a unique sense of vitality. I use digital post-processing selectively to refine details and enhance lighting effects without losing the illustration’s original character.
